Journey as a Volleyball Player

Beginning days of Sports journey

Born in the agricultural family, since childhood I was very active in all village sports. In school days I was very good and promising in Ball-badminton. It was during those days Mr. Avadhani, a very famous kabaddi Player was my PTI and involved me in sports. Completed my school education in 1957 and joined PUC in VSR College, Tenali.

In 1958, Sri Late Chekkuri Buchiramaiah a great player and a great coach came to college to train the volleyball team. Since I was one among the tallest, he asked me to join the volleyball coaching camp and started training under his watchful eyes.

Sports during College days: Graduating in volleyball…..

After that there was no looking back and I completely devoted my time for volleyball. I gave up ball badminton even though I was an excellent player, winning medal in Andhra University and some all India tournaments.

Those days volleyball was very prominent in Guntur and Hindu College was patronizing the game. Late Sri V. Subba Rao the famous principal of the college gave scholarship to join the college and I shifted from Tenali to Guntur in 1960. We won Andhra University championship three times, represented Andhra University and played for Andhra state in National Volleyball Championship from 1960 to 1964.
